About Kullu Manali

Kullu Manali is a famous Hill Station situated at the northern part of the Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. It is a hill station situated at a height of 6400 ft) in the Himalayas.

Situated on the Beas river (Vyaas in Hindi) is the famous tourist destination for Indians in Summer Holidays and In Winter for Honeymoon Couples.

The small town, with a population of 9096 (in 2011), is the beginning of the old route to Leh Ladakh via Lahaul and Spiti Valley.

What is the History of Manali

Manali is often referred to as the valley of gods. The name Manali is a changed version of the word Manu allaya, that means the home of Manu. The temple of Manu is still found in old Manali.

Believe is that Manu left his ark in Kullu Manali to recreate human life after a huge flood had overwhelmed the world. Manali is situated in the North of Kullu Valley – 50 km ahead.

How to reach Manali

By Bus :  Delhi to Manali is about 575 km. Buses from Delhi to Manali are on regular basis. Manali is also connecting to Chandigarh, Shimla, Dharamshala, and Leh. For Bus booking services you can book it online at www.kullumanali.com. 

HRTC and HPTDC buses are also operating on a daily basis from Delhi to Manali and Delhi to Shimla.

The Approximate travel time from Delhi to Manali is 12 Hours, From Ambala to Manali is 10 Hrs and from Chandigarh to Manali is 9 hours time. Departure time from Delhi to Manali Volvo buses are 5 pm. It reaches Manali the next morning at around 7 am.

Important Information for Volvo bus Travellers

Windows do not open in Volvo buses. Most of the Volvo buses provide Blankets and Water Bottles on Departure. Heavy and Spicy meals should be avoided before boarding the bus / while traveling.

Polythene bags are provided in Buses for the peoples if they feel like vomit. You will get a better view of the Valley and Beas River all the way from Mandi to Manali if you take a seat on the driver side of the Bus

By Train

There is no Railway station in Kullu Manali. The nearest Broad gauge Railway station in Chandigarh (320 km) or Una (250 km). So from any Railway station, it is around 8 to 10 hours drive.

The train journey is best for the travelers who preferred to go for Complete Himachal tour Packages by Car and come from Gujrat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and other South Cities and travel to plan by Car from the Railway Station onwards to various destinations in Himachal Pradesh like Kullu Manali, Dalhousie, Shimla, Dharamshala, etc.

The nearest Broad gauge station is Kiratpur Sahib in Punjab near the city of Nangal. It lies in Ropar district of Punjab. The station lies on the Ambala Cantt – Una route of Indian Railways. From here you can easily get buses for Manali.


By Flight

Nearest Airport is Bhuntar in Kullu – 50 km from Manali. Flights are only from Delhi to Manali.

Recently Air India has started Flights from Chandigarh to Kullu Manali but that are on alternate days and even that gets canceled due to fewer passengers or high prices, don’t know.
